Nearby is the market (Marché des Capucins).  See too the Quartier St Micjel with its antique shops, the old city center, the Pont de Pierre (the stone bridge), and the quays of the Garonne.  All this is accessible on foot, by bicycle, or by bus and tram.

THE BORDEAUX VINEYARDS are close to the city

vignobleThere are pleasant walks or you can visit wineries – some offer wine-tasting which is best booked in advance. A 15-30 minute drive will take you to the châteaux of Graves and Entre-deux-Mers.  It takes only a little longer to reach other wine-growing areas – Médoc, Côtes de Bourg, Côtes de Blaye, and Saint-Emilion.

Within easy reach are the beaches of Cap Ferret, the Bassin d’Arcachon and the dunes of Le Pilat.
